Getting to know SEO

Why Search Engine Optimization is the way to make money online

Given the growing number of money making opportunities that can be found online, from ad-based blogging to specialized web stores, making your website a top hit on search engines is absolutely crucial to its success. So how do you convince Google to make you a top three hit on searches for your product or service? The answer is Search Engine Optimization, or as it is more popularly referred to, SEO. SEO is essentially a web-based marketing strategy used to increase web traffic to a website through the inclusion of specific keywords in the html code, and the creation and maintenance of links from other sites that lead to yours.

The recent explosion of freelance consultants and professional SEO companies means getting your website or blog noticed is as simple as hiring an expert. But knowing how people search for information online, and how search engines produce search results is essentially the only things you need to know to get top results.

Finding the right Keywords

Usually the best place to put your keywords in the html code of your webpage is in the Meta tags. Keeping your keywords simple and relevant, but unique enough that they won’t get lost with the thousands of other sites that used those keywords is important to remember. In general short phrases work better than single words, and making sure that you have multiple keywords, but aren’t “keyword stuffing” is the best approach.

How will people search for what you have to offer?

While most know that SEO involves selecting the right keywords to include in your html code meta tags, often getting top results for tags on image or business searches can be just as critical, and sometimes more effective. This is especially true if you are creating a website for a business such as a hair salon, or bakery; or an image rich blog.

Back Linking: The New SEO

Back Linking is the other way that search engines organically find and rate your website, and its relevance is determined simple by the number of pages that link back to your site. While the number of ways that you can get your website Back Linked is ever increasing, it is important to ensure that the sites linking yours are topic relevant, and the more popular the better. Search engines like Yahoo and Google are taking active measures to reduce the number of top search result hits that are simple there due to aggressive “black hat” SEO tactics being used by an ever growing number of websites. While it is possible to create revenue based blog or website, keeping your content quality up and topic relevant will prevent your site from being removed, and ultimately produce more revenue in the long-term.

How to Build Links by Blog Commenting

Posted by BackLinkFast On August - 22 - 2009 9 COMMENTS

Blog commenting is one of the fastest and cheapest ways to build quality links. So what’s the catch? It’s time consuming, obviously. You have to find the blogs, skim through the post, write a relevant comment and pray for approval. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Strategic blog commenting can boost your rankings fast. As a bonus, if the link is not marked as nofollow, you can gain a higher page rank by carefully picking the right blogs. I have been blog commenting for close to 3 years now and have found enormous results for the fruits of my labor.

Whether you’re a webmaster, SEO, or a blogger, you should be using the following method regularly. Adapt it to your niche and watch your rankings soar.

Step One – Compile a List of Blogs

  1. Go to Google.com
  2. Type in: yourniche “Remember my personal information” “Notify me of follow-up comments”
  3. Replace yourniche with a keyword related to your niche
  4. Click Search
  5. CTRL-Click on the first ten results
  6. Go back to steps 3-6  and type in a different keyword, repeat as needed.
  7. Copy and paste the URLs you’ve gathered into a list for future reference

Step Two – Find High Page Rank Posts

  1. Use an internal page rank checker  like This One
  2. CTRL-Click 1-3 posts with the highest page rank for each URL you gathered

Step Three – Prepare your Comment

  1. Get ready to be witty, inquisitive, and argumentative.
  2. Skim through each post and try to find an interesting fact

Step Four – Make it SEO Friendly

  1. Go down to the comment section
  2. Fill out the comment form like so:
  • Name: YourKeyword (Don’t use anything that looks like spam)
  • Email: You@YourEmail.com (Use a junk email address, but make it real, some blogs require email confirmation to activate your comment)
  • Website: Enter your site’s URL (The one you’re building links to)

Step Five – Write the  Comment

It is very important that your comment doesn’t look automated, if it’s unrelated or too short it probably won’t get approved. Many bloggers are also webmasters who know of techniques such as these. It is your job as a blog commenter to convince them you are a reader who wants to express his opinion. Comments like “I agree with this post. Great blog, keep up the good work!” almost never get approved. Bloggers are smart, and many are SEO savvy enough to know what you’re trying to do. I’m a blogger, and I know of these techniques. However, I embrace blog commenting, as long as it doesn’t look automated.

Comment Approval Tips

  • Keep it clean, don’t use profanity
  • Check your spelling and grammar
  • Comment in the same language as the post, don’t waste your time translating a foreign language, just move on to the next blog
  • Ask a question
  • Make an argument
  • 4 Sentences, minimum
  • Only 1 comment per post
  • Maximum of 2 words per keyphrase (for the Name: field)

Juicy Link Finder Review

What is it? SEO Link Building Tool

The Rundown

Find High Authority, Juicy Links for next to nothing

This is the tool that “roped” me into buying a pro account with seomoz, and boy am I glad I jumped on the bandwagon with this one. The juicy link finder has helped me take client sites to the top of Google rankings for highly competitive keywords within a matter of weeks.

How It Works

The genius of this tool is in the simplicity of the user experience, the front end is incredibly simple. Input your keyword/keyphrase, select the number of results: 50,100, 150 or 200, and let seomoz work their magic. A few brief minutes later you are presented with the results in order of importance. The “juiciest” link being at the top of the list, and the least juiciest link resides at the bottom.

The beauty of this tool is that you will very often find unlikely hidden gems with high authority. I once found a very old site related to one of my niches hosted on an old geocities account. However, this site had HUGE authority within my niche and the webmaster didn’t even know it. I contacted him immediately to negotiate a link on his site and he was more than happy to give me a permanent link for an incredibly low price. 2 weeks later our site was ranked #3 in Google for that keyword (which was highly competitive).
